Four Wrestlers Ranked, Pennesi Continues Rise

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 9, 2013) – Heading into an idle week prior to their first Big 12 action of the season, four West Virginia University wrestlers are ranked in multiple Division I wrestling polls.

Nathan Pennesi (133), who boasts a team-leading 16 wins this season, rose to No. 13 in Amateur Wrestling News’ poll, No. 14 in InterMat’s poll, No. 14 in WrestlingReport’s poll and No. 17 in Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine’s poll.

Shane Young (125) also moved up, as he is now ranked No. 25 by WrestlingReport. The Jeannette, Pa., native has 6-1 record this season.

Colin Johnston (133), who missed this past Sunday’s dual meet due to injury, held steady at No. 26 in WrestlingReport’s poll and sports a 5-5 ledger this season.

Lance Bryson (184) is the final Mountaineer grappler that is ranked, as he holds a ranking of No. 29 in WrestlingReport’s poll and has an 8-6 overall mark this season.

WVU will return to the mats on Jan. 18, when it takes on Oklahoma State in its first Big 12 match of the season.
