Four WVU Wrestlers Ranked, Scheffel Earns Spot

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Feb. 7, 2013) – Four West Virginia University wrestlers are ranked in multiple Division I wrestling polls heading into this weekend’s match against Ohio, including Bubba Scheffel who earned a ranking for the first time this season.

Scheffel (174) checked in at No. 27 in WrestlingReport’s poll, after he improved his record to 8-4 this season with a win over Pitt’s Nick Bonaccorsi on Saturday evening.

Shane Young (125), who improved to 9-3 last weekend, is ranked No. 24 by WrestlingReport.

Nathan Pennesi (141) is ranked No. 12 by Amateur Wrestling News, No. 14 by InterMat and No. 15 by WrestlingReport and Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine. Pennesi earned his 20th win of the season on Saturday. This is Pennesi’s third consecutive season with 20 wins or more.

Lance Bryson (184) is ranked No. 30 by Wrestling Report. Bryson has seven wins this season.

Saturday’s match against the Bobcats is part of the Beauty and the Beast event, in which wrestling and gymnastics will compete simultaneously at the WVU Coliseum. Admission to the event is $1, with action beginning at 3 p.m.
