Dual Meet Season Completed

STILLWATER, Okla. (March 8, 2013) – The West Virginia University wrestling team completed its dual meet season on Friday, as it competed in the Big 12 Duals held in Stillwater, Okla., at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Duals, which were being held one day prior to the Big 12 Championships, saw the Mountaineers (2-13, 0-6 Big 12) square off against No. 2 Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa State, respectively.

“We are excited for the Big 12 Championships tomorrow,” Turnbull said. “We want to see if we can get a couple of guys through to the national tournament. We are hoping that Nathan (Pennesi) will get there as an at-large candidate, and we are hoping that Shane (Young) is able to put together a couple of good matches and win his bracket. (Bubba) Scheffel will have an opportunity to wrestle his way into the tournament as well.

WVU returns to the mat tomorrow evening for the Big 12 Championships, as semifinal action begins at 5 p.m., CT from Gallagher-Iba Arena.

In Saturday’s tournament action, the Mountaineers will have their full array of starters in the lineup.

“The reason that you wrestle and come out to a venue like this is to qualify individuals for the national tournament,” Turnbull said. “We are hoping that our guys put together matches to get themselves to that national stage.”
