Rea Signs with West Virginia

MORGANTOWN. W. Va. (April 18, 2016) – West Virginia University wrestling coach Sammie Henson announced Monday that Kyler Rea (Neosho, Mo./Neosho) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the team in Morgantown for the 2016-17 season.

Currently ranked No. 10/14 in the nation at 152 pounds, Rea was a two-time state champion at Neosho High in Neosho, Missouri. Under the guidance of Jeremy Phillips and Cody Crocker, Rea was a four-time conference and district champion as well. He ranks among the all-time wins leaders in the state of Missouri after posting a 58-0 mark as a senior, helping the Wildcats win both the COC-Large Conference Tournament title and Class 3 Missouri state title in 2016. Rea capped his career as a four-time state medalist and 2016 KCI Champion.

“We are extremely excited to have Kyler join the Mountaineer family,” said Henson, who wrapped up his second season in Morgantown. “He has all the tools to excel at the highest level. His addition puts one step closer to being a top-tier team.”

Also a standout in the classroom, Rea was a four-time academic all-state honoree who intends to major in pre-med after choosing WVU over Oklahoma and North Dakota State. He is the son of Rob and Tiffany, who played basketball and softball at Missouri Southern.

He joins fellow incoming freshmen Conner Buttry (Osterburg, Pa./Chestnut Ridge HS), Dayton Garrett (Tuttle, Okla./Tuttle HS), Tucker Leavitt (Chubbock, Idaho/Highland) and Matthew Schmitt (Platte City, Mo./Platte County), who previously signed in November.
