Two OVU Wrestlers Place Sixth at Midwest Classic

December 13-14, 2014

Vienna, W.Va.- The Fighting Scots wrestling team headed to the 36th Annual Midwest Classic at the University of Indianapolis this weekend. With a small roster of just four competing for OVU the team was able to place 19th out of the 26 teams present.

OVU's four representatives to compete were 149 lb. Josue Rodriguez, 174 lb. Austin Antill, 197 lb. Chase Long, and heavyweight Blake Lucas. Each faced several opponents in this huge classic of 26 teams. In a tournament that gives the team an idea of how well they can match up in the region two of OVU's seniors placed 6th in their weight classes.

Chase Long, who is 10-5 this season won by decision over Cambellsville and UNC Pembroke but lost in the semi-final to Ashland University and again in the 5th place match to Maryville University landing him in sixth place.

Blake Lucas came into the tournament undefeated on the season. He won by decision over Upper Iowa University (3-2) and by fall over Gannon University (1:39) before losing by a tie breaker to UNC Pembroke in the semi-final match. He then lost by a decision to King College and forfeit to Upper Iowa University placing him in 6th and now has a record of 8-3.

The injured Scots will now have several weeks to rest up as the students head home for Christmas. The team will look to have a much more complete lineup at the start of the new semester.
