South will host Oak Glen, Weirton and Warren this Wednesday at the ROAC. Wrestling usually starts at 6 pm for South matches, so I assume this one will be the same.

They just added Weir recently. The original schedule didn’t have them.

Warren, Ohio's 132 is bad news for all.

Instead of talking about if they were or weren't on the schedule in December or November, let's talk about is South going to travel next year and allow any of these teams that came to them middle of the week host next year.

Will be looking forward to next years schedule to see South travelling to Fairmont or Indy, travelling to Hurricane or Riverside, travelling to Weir or Oak Glen.

We shall see if any of these are on Gators schedule November 2018!

Masked guy, South traveled to Indy last year and wrestled in Fairmont also. We only had 3 home matches last year. Check South’s schedule, they travel all over to wrestle.

This year we get some home matches and everyone is crying the blues.

We went to St Eds, the Ironman, Powerade, and TN. We have The OVACS in Wheeling coming up and Brooke Classic. I think South does their fair share of traveling and they actually wrestle some pretty descent teams and tough tournaments.

By the way, it’s not my schedule, it’s Parkersburg South’s schedule.

Was not meant to upset you, more of a question of historical fact. Yes you wrestled in Fairmont last year, at a tournament last minute due to sitting out from Powerade,, or you would not have been in Fairmont. Ironman, Powerade, TN, OVACs, and Brooke Classic are all weekend tournaments. I am asking about middle of the week duals, to other teams venues, that traveled to South, to help them get community and school involvement for their programs. We all know that the student body does not travel well to tournaments on weekends. To gain support for your program, schools need a few big middle of the week duals to promote the sport.

Last year the big complaint was nobody would wrestle south in duals. This year many of teams have come to South to wrestle in midweek duals. I am curious if South is going to go to the other teams venues next year so they can have some home duals. You know how most teams do at least a two year committment, one home and one away.

Not going to argue that South wrestles the toughest schedule - true statement.
Not going to argue that South is not the top team in the state this year - true statement.
Not going to argue that no team in the state can upset them this year - highly unlikely

I won't lose sleep over South's schedule, just would be nice to see some duals at other locations to share the wealth and help promote others programs, venues, and abilities to run a good competitive dual.

Masked man:

I understand your point, and South does travel to other venues for weekday duals. This year we were fortunate to have a new AD who wanted more home matches.

Last year we went down to Sophia and wrestled Indy and Huntington. We had a tri going on with Point and Ripley with rotating venues, but since Point went to AA/A, that seemed to end. Ripley and coach Smith always wrestle us. We usually rotate home and home matches. It wouldn’t surprise me to see South go New Cumberland and wrestle Oak Glen next year. We once had a rotating dual with them.

Coach David Jeffrey usually sets South’s schedule. He’ll do whatever he can work out. I don’t know if it’s because South is willing to host it or not. I would love to see South in the WSAZ’s every year and Winner’s Choice, but schedule conflicts doesn’t allow the WSAZ tournament to happen. I’d like to see us wrestle East Fairmont, Wheeling Park, Huntington, John Marshall and University every year on a rotating basis, but it may have to be tri’s or quads to make it happen. I just get the schedule and follow it. I’ve been doing it for 51 years now.

Best wishes to you and I’m not upset. I understand the complexity of getting a schedule together and commend those that do it for all schools.

Two points come to mind and I am being as sincere as I can be.

1. Lets wait and see what South does schedule wise NEXT year and then raise the question.

2. If I was setting up home matches and wanting to promote wrestling in my community, Parkersburg South would be the LAST team I would bring to town. Setting my team up for an 81-0 slaughter at home will make the entire student body say "wow, our wrestling team is terrible. I am not coming to another one of these again". Then the kids tease the wrestlers in class the next day and a third of them quit. I understand a tough schedule helps. Nobody gets better when the majority gets pinned in the first round. No reason for anybody to get mad, it is just the facts. I do not create the facts. If I did, I would wave my hand and fix all of the things we all discuss and debate every season.

Dont worry about Quiocho he just wrestled the best 2 132 pounders in the state .
If he works on his defense and top game he will be there at the end.
Great young wrestler.

Gavin is a very tough young man. He pushes the pace and forces you to wrestle him. He may not have won vs Peyton or Caleb but he never took a step backward and was full throttle till the end. He won’t be losing many more if he continues on the path he is going. Great job and good luck!!

Thanks for the kind words P.H.D. It was good talking to you, Peyton and your father last evening. Peyton is a fine young man and great wrestler! Gavin is also a great young man and Wrestlingfan1 must not have anything better to do with his time than to slam a 15 year old kid.

Not slamming anyone, just an observation.
