The Ravenswood Youth Wrestling Club is trying to see if there is enough interest to start a new weekly youth league. We have some ideas but would like to meet with club/team officers and/or coaches to discuss details and see if this could be accomplished. Our ideas (currently.we remain open to discussion of all ideas) for the league are as follows:
- A "Sunday Afternoon" league - starting at say 1 or 2 pm.and likely ending by 3-5 pm
- A "Quad" style format.4 teams in a location per Sunday
- An approximate "Two Month" Season (about mid-Dec to mid-Feb)
- A "Mat Time" emphasis league with individual bouts recorded but no team scores kept.
- Get all wrestlers some mat experience within time limits allowed at facility and by teams competing
- Since no team scores kept, should allow flexibility for wrestlers to attend Sunday tournaments that they desire to compete at and open up opportunities for less experienced wrestlers to get more matches.
- Additional or exhibition matches to be encouraged within time frame
- An end of season "Tournament" for individual and team championships
- Matches set by weight only.beginning of season weigh in only (and possibly another at either mid or post season)
- Consideration given to either adjusting weight classes or making weight allowances at mid and post season
- Each club/team to hold home dates and be responsible for facility scheduling, mat set up, officials, etc.but to also get proceeds from concessions, etc on their hosted dates.
- A per team/club entry fee to cover post season tournament awards.host site to be bid by league members and decided by vote involving all teams.
- Our goal is to have at least 8 clubs/teams involved the first season with each team hosting the league twice
- (i.e. - 4 teams each at two places each Sunday)
- We have reserved our gym here in Ravenswood for Sunday 1/3/10 and Sunday 1/17/10 to host two home league dates
